The Ultimate Lane-Splitting Machine
This bike was purchased after a few months in Los Angeles. Our prior BMW G650 GS-P police bike was having consistent electrical issues (a carry over from our time in Maryland) and after being stranded a few times with a dead battery and no fixes, it took to looking for a replacement.
We were in an apartment, and at the time had two cars. We were just up the street from the local Triumph & Ducati dealership in Montrose, CA, but also stopped into the Pasadena BMW Motorcycle dealer for a test ride of several bikes. They weren’t allowing the RnineT to be ridden at the time, as it was spoken for, but a ride on another 1200 GS, a R1200 R, and this, the S1000 R, we decided to get this bike. However, we did this at Irv Seaver BMW in Orange County, as they not only had the proper S1000 R, but as we were trading in an authority bike, that still had all the equipment on it, Irv Seaver was the main service center for Southern California’s BMW police bike fleet.
